Mist in Masuria

When you wake up in the morning and there's that old London mist outside but you are on holiday in Masuria - in the European Union. Brexit isn't real, it must be a temporary state of mind imprisoned inside some artificially restrictive boundaries. However, you see above: "thought is free", as Shakespeare said. Thought's always free!

Nature & Civilisation

Masurian landscapes are full of infrastructural facilities reminding about creativeness of former inhabitants of this unique part of today's Poland and European Union. Lakes' and rivers' locks like Guzianka, wind- and watermills like Ryn, viaducts and water towers like Goldap - everything makes you realise very well Masuria always was not only an oasis of pure nature but also an integral part of highly civilised as well as entrepreneurial Europe.

Masuria - here we go in the European Union [BY HIM]

Masurian Lake District. For Poles, "green lungs of Poland", for Varsovians, a place of summer holidays, for Germans, a place to visit after retiring. For me - a home. You cannot live there and not love this place. Its beauty and mystery have stolen many hearts!

Let’s say you’ve heard about Masuria and want to go there. So you take your family, pack your luggage, get in your car and type Masuria in your GPS. You are driving through Poland and think that here there are the worst roads you’ve ever seen. And then you cross the border of Masuria and find out that there are even worse roads! But you are driving along these narrow roads and realize that you’re in paradise. After a sharp turning begins a forest. But it is different than any you have seen before. Behind the majesty of those trees is hidden something mysterious. You decide to stop in the nearest car park to investigate this secret. You take a deep breath and feel free! You drive further. Outside the forest, extends an astonishing valley among the hills. You are wondering if you’re in the mountains or in a lake district. Everything around is green and natural. No factories, no pollution, no detriment caused by humans. Only you and the nature. You drive further and over a fairy hill reveals a breathtaking landscape full of green lakes. You want to take a look at them, but you’re hungry so you go to an inn next to the lake. A pretty waitress takes your order and goes away. Now you have some time to delight in the beauty of the water and its surroundings. The waitress brings Masurian hash browns with beef roulades. Looks delicious and tastes delicious. After the meal you rent a kayak and float on the lake. Sculling on the smooth surface of the lake, you’re feasting your eyes on the environment. The lake ends on the edge of a forest. Among the reed you perceive a river that leads you through the forest. You have thought you have seen the most beautiful sceneries in your life earlier this day, but you haven’t! This is the moment you are floating on a river in a ravine, surrounded, in a true sense of the word, by nature. From the treetops come sounds of singing birds. Everything around is green and peaceful. You feel delighted but you have to come back to the haven. You return the kayak and go onto a jetty to watch the sunset. You are sitting there and can see the orange sun reflected on the smooth surface of the lake. You can see freedom in this landscape. It was difficult to come here, but it was definitely worth your efforts!

The Masurian Lake District is beautiful not only because of its astonishing nature, but also because of friendly people who live here and come here to rest. If you want to spend your holidays in a good atmosphere, in a place where you will be able to take it easy, there’s no better place to choose than the Masurian Lake District! I’m 100% sure Masuria will steal your heart as soon as you come here!

Masuria - here we go in the European Union [BY HER]

Dear Diary,

The day I thought Masuria is the worst place to live has been coming back to me recently more often than usual (That's the guilty voice in my head obviously). I realized it was high time I stopped for a while and saw through my hometown explicitly and from the attitude of more mature and eventually an adult person who now knows more precisely about her own self.

I can't believe I'm saying that but I missed this place so much. This tranquility is unstoppable. Even all those resonant kids' voices cannot overwhelm the peace you can experience while strolling around the lakes or admiring the hushed voices of various birds living in the nearby forest. The water, at a glance is as normal as everywhere in the world but if you go a little more deeply, you will make out it's incredibly clear and the smell of it just consumes you, like the air which makes inhalation a pleasure. I can take a risk and consider that Masuria is the lungs of Europe, the place which produces the biggest amount of oxygen. The forests are not the Amazonia but they are unique in their own way - filled with a tremendous quantity of all sorts of plants and trees. The architecture is not very modern here but that's not the reason you fall in love with Masuria. It's more about the nature that calms you down. If you have problems, put them in your suitcase and take them for a trip to the heart of cleanness - to Masuria. I promise they won't come back home with you. Thinking comes easier. I'm not exactly sure why but it does. Maybe it's because of the breathtaking views or maybe the silence is what makes the difference. Come here and see for yourself!

I wish I had seen this before I moved out. If I could I would go back in time and appreciate all the good you can get from living here. Masuria is more like a place full of advantages than full of boredom as I used to think.

Masurian taste of family summer

Another taste of family summer in Masuria: broad bean! It's best for quick lunch with garlic olive oil and fresh thyme. There are 2 schools of eating it. Girls usually prefer broad bean without its peel, boys like it with peel. As you can see on the picture above: today's lunch was girl-made :)

Living Meadows

It's quite hard to express pure beauty of Masurian meadows. They smell and look so colourful. Most of them are being used for purposes relating to organic milk production. Masurian cows look very happy while eating fresh, juicy Masurian grass. Also storks, herons and foxes try to find their favourite food. During the haymaking birds are everywhere. It makes Masurian meadows living ecosystem you just want to watch and watch! :)
