Jamaica, India, Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany and Poland will play in Ostroda. Find more details on the official website of the Ostroda Reggae Festival: www.OstrodaReggae.com

Sledges of Masuria

Something weird took place today in Masuria for the 5th time. We've got many more lakes than mountains over there but people from Ostroda played again with sledges of various types and shapes. It's a traditional winter competition on the beach of the Lake Sajmino. This year winners were not less creative than former ones. Recyclable vehicle won the first prize. Congrats from us! Wonderland Masuria

Winter looks fabulous in Masuria. Our landscapes are white, uniquely white and crystal blue. Mostly silence and tranquility rules over frozen lakes and meadows. What a luck to experience such a beauty.

Mazury.PTTK.pl

Today, in London, we looked back over the past in Poland. 1980s - probably - was the last best time for totally active family summers. No smartphones, no computers, no internet. Only parents, kids and backpacks. Daylight hiking and all those nights spent in many different country shelters run by the PTTK (Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society), what a holidays! As a matter of fact, you can enjoy PTTK offer even today. Warmian-Masurian branch offers i.a. river-trail kayaking and bicycle touring. More information on: Mazury.PTTK.pl

Warmian-Masurian Proms

If you are wondering about Warmian-Masurian Proms, they are on now. Have a look at: YouTube. Polish students are getting ready for their A-level exams taking place in about 100 days. But first things first! :)) Due to this tradition we call prom as "studniowka" (something like: "100 days to go").

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

There's a big non-profit event taking place in Poland. We call it "The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity", because almost all Polish people go outdoor one Sunday in January and raise money for very important purposes, usually concerning general health problems in the Polish society. The 25th event of this kind took place last Sunday. Only in Olsztyn, the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship's capital city, people raised around £100,000 in total. That's a good result! By the way, Poles living in the UK also raised the money. Congrats to all of us!

Never, never ending story...

Very sad day today. Gofer, our friend - the dog chasing cormorants, passed away. He loved Masuria much. Always liked holidays in Cisowek, finding summer time in the country as a total freedom. Now is free as himself in Masurian meadows and lakes. Have a good afterlife, dear Gofer. You'll always be in our memories as a never, never ending story...

Birds we look after in winter

We've got a lot of birds living all year long in Masuria. It's very important to help them during white winters. So we do, always as much as we can. Watching them live, while it's snowing outdoor, can be not less interesting than watching TV shows at home.

Birds in love with winter Masuria

Two bird species are in a never ending love with winter Masuria. Bullfinch arrives to us from northeastern Europe. Bohemian waxwing from northern Eurasia. Weather usually is too hard for them over there. So, many flocks of these birds enjoy their Masurian time in our forests, gardens and parks. As you see on the picture above, we've got a lot of fruits they like in winter Masuria. In spring they'll leave.

Saturday breakfast from Masuria

Today the Saturday breakfast all we know from the summer time during the childhood in Poland. It's just a simple sandwich with cheese, tomato and hot cocoa to drink. Time brings changes, so our breakfast is a bit different now from the one we know so good from the past. The bread is whole-meal, the cheese is low-fat, the lacto-free spread goes instead of butter and even tomatoes today bio and eco instead of bigger ones growing in a small greenhouse behind the house. Anyway, taste still the same inside us! BTW, don't try to mix cocoa with organic soy milk without hot water first :)

Z pozdrowieniami noworocznymi z Londynu,
Roman Mazur MBA
